A purchased domain remains in the account and incurs its renewal fee; the lecture uses about $12 per year as an example, with the actual amount depending on the TLD. If the hosted zone is no longer needed, remove its deletable records and then delete the zone to avoid its recurring monthly charge, shown here as $0.50. The number of records is not the primary fixed cost of keeping the zone.

00:15 or more if you've bought a more pricey domain name

00:17 And the domain name itself, so the hosted zone,

00:18 if you're not using it,

00:20 you can delete this hosted zone

00:22 by first emptying all the records.

00:25 Otherwise it will cost you 50 cents per month

00:27 to keep this hosting zone alive, okay.

The practical lesson is to audit resources region by region because the console shows regional EC2 and ALB resources only after switching regions. Once removed, the section's infrastructure should no longer generate those charges.

00:43 So what I'm going to do is just delete them one by one.
