00:02 Again, this will be a very short lecture
00:05 where we just touch upon how you can monitor
00:07 your DirectConnect connection status using the CloudWatch.
00:12 Now, you know that CloudEdge is a service
00:13 which essentially is used to monitor the health
00:16 of various AWS services.
00:19 Now, there are also CloudWatch metrics,
00:21 which can help you see the status of DirectConnect
00:25 as well as performance of your DirectConnect connection.
00:28 So now let's look at those metrics.
2. CloudWatch 同时监控 Connection 与 VIF

3. DX Connection CloudWatch Metrics

01:02 Now you can see there are a bunch of metrics
01:05 for DX connection.
01:07 Now, the most important is ConnectionState.
01:10 So 1 indicates that the connection is up
01:12 and 0 indicates it's down.
01:14 So you are to make sure that you set CloudWatch alarm
01:17 when your state becomes 0,
01:19 probably you should know via the email or an SMS,
01:23 whatever notification mechanism you want to implement.
01:26 So that's one important CloudWatch metrics.
01:29 Other than that, most of the metrics are related
01:32 to the traffic.
01:34 So you can see there are Egress metrics
01:36 and there are Ingress metrics.
01:38 Egress means the traffic flowing from AWS
01:41 to on-premises network and Ingress is the other way around.
01:46 BPS is bits per second.
01:48 So you can say that ConnectionBpsEngress means total number
01:52 of bits per second for the outbound data from AWS side.
01:57 Similarly, the BPS for Ingress traffic.
02:00 And then there is also packet per second metrics
02:04 also available that is called PPS.
02:06 So how much packets per second,
02:08 your DirectConnect connection is able to process.
02:13 Now then comes one another important metrics.
02:15 Which is Error Count.
02:17 So it is a total error count of all types
02:19 on the AWS device site.
02:22 So I think you should also be looking at this error count
02:25 and see that how many errors are there in the last 24 hours
02:29 and if you see consistently the error account is increasing
02:32 that means you should also report it to AWS,
02:35 your DirectConnect partner,
02:37 and make sure that you can fix those problems.
02:41 Then add the physical layer.
02:43 You have two metrics which will help you.
02:45 That is LightLevelTx that is transmit
02:49 and LightLevel RX that is receiving.
02:52 So you can see the health of fiber connection
02:54 for the outbound connection as well
02:57 as for the inbound connection.
02:59 So these are the two important metrics for that.
03:02 And finally, if MACSec is enabled,
03:05 then you can also see the ConnectionEncryptionState.
03:08 1 indicates that the encryption is up and 2 indicates
03:11 that encryption is done.
03:13 Now as you know, the MACSec is not available
03:16 for all DirectConnect connection.
03:19 It is available only on the select DirectConnect locations
03:22 as well as it is applicable for dedicated connection,
03:26 which is 10 GBPS and more.
03:28 Okay with that there are similar metrics available
03:31 for VIFs as well.
4. DX Virtual Interface CloudWatch Metrics
