For the exam, every VPC uses AmazonProvidedDNS, also called the Route 53 Resolver, at the VPC network address plus two and the VPC-only address 169.254.169.253. It resolves Route 53 Private Hosted Zones, AWS-managed VPC/EC2 internal DNS, and then public DNS. DHCP option sets are immutable; replace them with a new association, and only one can be associated with a VPC at a time. enableDnsSupport controls Amazon DNS resolution, while enableDnsHostnames controls public DNS names for instances with public IPs; both should be true for Private Hosted Zones. Hybrid DNS should use inbound and outbound Route 53 Resolver endpoints for outside-to-VPC and VPC-to-outside queries, respectively.

00:01 So let's try to recap what we learned in this section.

00:09 But just trying to summarize this in this lecture.
00:12 So very first thing VPC has a default DNS server which is identified as Amazon provided DNS in the Dhcp
00:20 option set.
00:21 This server is also called as route 53 DNS resolver.
00:26 Now this DNS server runs at VPC base address plus two, and it is also available on the virtual IP 1639.254.169.2
00:35 53, and this virtual IP can only be accessed from within the VPC.
00:41 Now, Amazon provided DNS server resolves the DNS from the route 53 private hosted zone VPC internal
00:48 DNS, which are assigned by the AWS, and then any public DNS.
00:53 The DNS configurations for the VPC can be changed using Dhcp options sets, and this option sets cannot

01:02 If you want to change any setting, you have to create a new Dhcp option set and then associate that
01:07 with the VPC, and at one time you can only have a single Dhcp option set associated with the VPC.

01:47 And we are also going to talk about these attributes when we talk about the VPC endpoints and many such
01:53 features, which connects your VPC to the other AWS services.
01:59 And finally, for hybrid DNS resolution, you should use Amazon Route 53 resolver endpoints.
